Along with unlocking and opening your car doors, certain key fobs can also be used to start the engine. This is helpful if the vehicle needs to be parked in a hot weather condition or when the car's boot is full of heavy objects that make it difficult to manually open the door. To unlock the car using your key fob, simply press the unlock button a few times in quick succession. The door locks will close and the red light will begin to flash. If this doesn't occur then your key fob battery may be dead and needs to be replaced. Alternately, RF interference from nearby buildings may affect your system.
Another cool feature is that certain key fobs have a hidden physical key that can be used to unlock the car (often only for the driver's door, but sometimes for the boot too). They can usually be accessed by opening the flap on the fob, or pressing a button on the case. The key can then be removed from the slot inside the case to gain access to the lock.

Key fobs may be damaged by water, especially if the chips are exposed to salty or soapy water. In some instances the chip that is damaged can cause key fobs to cease working. If this happens, the key fob has to be replaced - typically by the dealer. Locksmiths can provide replacement keys much more quickly and at lower costs than dealerships.

Door Locks
The Peugeot 3008 remote system allows you to lock or unlock your vehicle by pressing the button on your key fob. Contrary to the traditional key, which has a physical key hole the key fob contains an encrypted copy of the car keys inside.
In order to accomplish this, it uses the use of a specific radio signal that is only sent when the key is within a specified range of the car. A solenoid inside the door lock transforms the electronic command into a mechanical one once the signal has been detected. This turns a rod to control the car door locks, the same way keys on a real key would.
If a Peugeot key fob has stopped locking or unlocking the car, there are many possibilities of the cause. The most common is a dead coin battery, which can be replaced within minutes. Other reasons include worn buttons, water damage or signal interference, or a damaged electronic chip.
The key fob on modern cars is not an exception. Modern vehicles require an extremely high level precision to function. The key fob may be programmed incorrectly, or may have a hardware defect that prevents it from responding to a signal from the vehicle. A certified locksmith can reprogramme your key fob to ensure it is compatible with the vehicle.
Immobiliser
Peugeot was one of the first manufacturers to install an immobiliser in a key. This prevents the vehicle from starting if the key sends the incorrect signal to the car. This is great in the beginning however over time, the chips will get worn out and cause issues. This usually starts with getting a message saying 'anti theft system active' on the dashboard, or a warning light lit up stating "immobiliser fault".
